Dear Colleague,

HATE CRIME AWARENESS WEEK, 9-16 OCTOBER 2021

National Hate Crime Awareness Week takes place each year between the second and third Saturdays in October. The campaign encourages people to take part in their own activities to raise awareness around the issue: https://nationalhcaw.uk/plan-your-nationalhcaw

The phrase 'hate crime' can be used to describe a range of criminal behaviour where the perpetrator is motivated by hostility towards someone due to their disability, race, religion, sexual orientation or transgender identity. These aspects of a person's identity are known as 'protected characteristics'

Our LGBT+ Advisory Committee has highlighted this issue in the past and a poster was produced earlier in the year and circulated. A copy of the poster is attached to this email. If you would like some of these posters to use during National Hate Crime Awareness Week please email m.santamera@rmt.org.uk

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
