Dear Colleague,

HATE CRIME POSTERS

Our LGBT+ Advisory Committee has produced a poster to raise awareness about hate crime. A copy of the poster is attached to this email.

The term 'hate crime' can be used to describe a range of criminal behaviour where the perpetrator is motivated by hostility towards someone due to their disability, race, religion, sexual orientation or transgender identity. These aspects of a person's identity are known as 'protected characteristics'.

A hate crime can include verbal abuse, intimidation, threats, harassment, assault and bullying, as well as damage to property. A victim may experience hate crime even when they do not have the protected characteristics they have been targeted for but are perceived to have them by the perpetrator.

The union actively opposes all forms of harassment, prejudice and unfair discrimination and has printed copies of this poster for distribution. If you would some posters, please email m.santamera@rmt.org.uk

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
