Circular No. NP/263/18
Dear Colleagues
IMPORTANT NOTE ON JANUARY FARE RISE DAY OF ACTION
Please note that this year, taking into account the large amount of industrial and campaigning activity already being undertaken by activists and to prioritise resources to maximise publicity, Regional Offices have been asked to assist in organising a station in each region to promote our cut fares not staff message and make the case for public ownership of the railways.
Please note therefore the stations confirmed to date where action will definitely be taking place on 2nd January are Bristol Temple Meads, Cardiff, Manchester Piccadilly, Liverpool Lime Street, Birmingham New Street, Doncaster, Leeds, Newcastle, Watford and Kings Cross on the 2nd January and Edinburgh Waverley station on the 3rd January. A final list of stations will be circulated shortly.
If however there are any circumstances where branches are planning to hold events in addition to the above, they should let us know by emailing Bob Oram by 10.00 am, on Thursday 20th December b.oram@rmt.org.uk with details of the station / times and name and address of the contact to send postcards to. Please note all these RMT postcards now have the Freepost facility and are GDPR compliant.
The union will also be circulating a model letter on social media on 2nd January to make the case for public ownership that members and the public can send to their MPs.
We also understand that the Labour Party will be holding a campaign day to make their case for public ownership of the railways. Any RMT branch wishing to join in with this should contact their local Labour Party to see if there is any activity taking place in their area. Note Labour and not the RMT will be responsible for providing the campaign materials in these circumstances.
Yours sincerely,
Mick Cash
General Secretary
