Circular No: NP/258/18
TO ALL SHIPPING AND OFFSHORE BRANCHES AND REGIONAL COUNCILS
Our ref: S1/1 S5/2
4th December 2018
Dear Colleagues
Increases in Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) fees
Further to circular no. NP/260/16 of 2nd November 2016, following the consultations it held in 2016 and 2017, to which your union responded, the MCA has increased the fees it charges for the basic services it provides, including for seafarer training and medical certification.
The attached guide from the MCA gives the new fees, including those charged for Efficient Deck Hand, Watch Rating and Boatmaster qualifications. The charge for the medical examination required to receive the ENG 1 will also increase, incrementally, to £115 from November 2020.
Although these are the first increases for a decade, we opposed the increases for seafarers during consultation and the way this has been handled by the MCA and Government is not good enough.
It would be appreciated if you could bring the content of this circular to the attention of all branch members and you will be updated with further developments.
Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
General Secretary
