REGIONAL ORGANISERS AND OFFICES

Dear Colleague,

International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination: Rally 22 March 2014, Trafalgar Square

The TUC is working with “Unite Against Facism”, Migrants Rights Network and other migrant, refugee and anti-racist organisations to organise a rally in Trafalgar Square on 22 March 2014 to mark the United Nations Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The event will be held under the slogan “Stand Up to Racism and Facism”.

The TUC is concerned that race discrimination has fallen off the political and public policy agenda and issues such as the toxic debate about migration, increasing hysteria in relation to the Muslim community, that anger of the black community in relation to stop and search and deaths in custody are dealt with in a way that is fragmenting communities and diluting the pressure that is needed to force solutions to these problems.

There will be a procession from Parliament Square to the rally in Trafalgar Square (timings tbc) and all Branches and Regions are encouraged to take part and bring their banners.  Details will be circulated once received.

Yours sincerely,

Bob Crow

General Secretary
