ITF Solidarity Action: Facebook drivers seeking union representation

Head Office Circular No. NP/215/14/MC

To the Secretary all Branches,

Monday 27th October 2014

Dear Colleagues,

ITF Solidarity Action: Facebook drivers seeking union representation
Shuttle bus drivers in the Silicon Valley, California, who transport Facebook employees are seeking union representation by ITF affiliate the Teamsters Union in the US.
The drivers work from dawn until well after dusk, but the vast majority of drivers can’t afford to support their families.

During the six hours that they are off in the middle of the work day between shifts, the drivers try to catch up on their sleep in their cars or in a company trailer with no heat or air conditioning. They are not allowed to work at other jobs during that time.
The majority of the drivers want to join a union and they have twice sought representation by Teamsters Local 853 to improve their livelihoods for themselves and their families. However, the subcontractor that works for Facebook, Loop Transportation is refusing to recognise the union.

Please show your solidarity by visiting:

Yours sincerely,
Mick Cash
General Secretary
