Circular No: NP/167/15
TO ALL BRANCHES, REGIONAL ORGANISERS, REGIONAL COUNCILS, & COUNCIL OF EXECUTIVES.
Our Ref: S2/1/4
15th September 2015
Dear Colleague,
“Keep CalMac and Carry on”
Further to circular No.133/15 of 23rd July 2015, the union’s campaign to defend jobs and services at public sector ferry company Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) from privatisation continues and has received welcome support from the Daily Record newspaper’s ‘Keep CalMac and Carry On’ campaign.
It is extremely helpful to have a national newspaper in Scotland campaigning for public ownership of lifeline ferry services between the mainland and Clyde and Hebridean communities. The Daily Record has produced campaigning materials, including ‘Keep CalMac and Carry On’ window stickers, a number of which have been sent by the paper to RMT and are enclosed.
I urge members, especially in Scotland to display the ‘Keep CalMac and Carry On’ sticker in windows and cars, in order to highlight the level of public support for the £1 billion contract for Clyde and Hebrides ferry services to stay in the public sector with CalMac. It would also be appreciated if all Regional Offices could display this.
You will be kept updated with the union’s anti-privatisation campaign on Scottish ferry services and I would be grateful if you could bring the content of this circular to the attention of all members in your Branch.
Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
General Secretary
