Circular No: NP/015/25
TO ALL MARITIME BRANCHES AND REGIONAL COUNCILS
Our ref: S3/9
28th January 2025
Dear Colleagues
Launch of the Offshore Energy Skills Passport
In line with previous NEC instructions, I am writing to inform members in the offshore oil and gas sector that the energy skills passport was launched last week. RMT members are encouraged to visit this digital platform which currently provides pathway information to four roles in the offshore wind sector.
The passport was developed through the Offshore Co-ordinating Group and employers in both oil and gas and renewables. The Scottish Government provided £3.7m to help develop the first version of the passport and the RMT now sit on the Steering Group that will develop the passport to cover other areas, including decommissioning, carbon capture and storage, as well as hydrogen and geo-thermal energy.
The energy skills passport is a welcome development but it took years of political and industrial campaigning by the RMT and other unions to get past the opposition of some employer organisations to get to this point and the issue of duplication remains a problem. We now need urgent action at government level to provide funded security for offshore oil and gas members’ jobs, skills and livelihoods.
I would be grateful if you could bring the information contained in this circular to the attention of all Maritime Branch members. You will be kept advised of all further developments.
Yours sincerely
Mick Lynch
General Secretary
