Circular No: NP/067/18
TO ALL BRANCHES AND REGIONAL COUNCILS.
Our ref: S1/1
10th April 2018
Dear Colleagues
‘Maritime 2050’ – Call for Evidence
Further to circular no. NP/065/18 of 5th April 2018, the Department for Transport has issued a call for evidence on its ‘Maritime 2050’ strategy.
This consultation is a chance to further our collective fight against shipping employers’ exploitation of low-cost crew. We need to increase RMT seafarer numbers, particularly on passenger, offshore energy, cargo and cruise vessels. Your union has set out policies to achieve this for Ratings, through the SOS 2020 campaign and the RMT Offshore Strategy and we need to see our policies feature in any post-Brexit deal the Government reaches with the European Commission. The consultation document is available here and a copy is attached: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/maritime-2050-call-for-evidence
Shipping Branches, in particular are encouraged to respond to the Government’s request for evidence on the future of the maritime and shipping industry. The National Policy Department can assist with submissions and all responses should be sent to sos2020@rmt.org.uk for inclusion in the RMT’s final response to the DfT.
I would be grateful if you could bring the contents of this circular to the attention of members in your branch and you will be kept updated with all further developments.
Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
General Secretary
