NETWORK RAIL – STAND UP FOR RACE EQUALITY
In May of this year, Network Rail introduced the Stand Up for Race Equality training programme which they require all employees to take part. It is an hour-long briefing session which makes clear links between safety and inclusion.
The initiative was prompted by two separate and significant incidents last year. In both situations racism was a factor. In addition, the RMT took a case to an employment tribunal on behalf of one of our members and Network Rail was found liable for not dealing with racial issues.
The briefings emphasise a zero-tolerance approach to racism and any other form of discrimination. The fight against discrimination is a key objective of the union’s Rules and I write to encourage the active participation in this training roll-out by our members who are Network Rail employees.
I would be most grateful if you could please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of your members.
