Personal Safety of Women Seafarers

Head Office Circular No. NP/108/24

Ref: EO/3

25th April 2024

To all Branch and Regional Secretaries with seafarer members

Dear Colleagues,

PERSONAL SAFETY OF WOMEN SEAFARERS

The ITF Seafarers’ Section is conducting a short survey on the experience of personal safety of women seafarers working onboard a ship, cruise, or ferry. A safe and inclusive environment is crucial for attracting more women to seafaring jobs and in retaining women already working in the industry.

Central to personal safety is the eradication of bullying and harassment in line with the ILO Convention 190 (C190). Women are disproportionately affected by violence and harassment, but anyone can experience violence and harassment in the world of work. Questions on bullying and harassment form a central part of the survey.

The data collected in this survey will be used for research purposes only and shall be treated as confidential and not shared publicly.

The link to the survey is here:

The survey will be open until 31 May 2024.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch

General Secretary
