Circular No: NP/212/20

TO ALL MARITIME BRANCHES AND REGIONAL COUNCILS.

Dear Colleagues

REMINDER: Complete the Platform survey of offshore oil and gas workers

Further to Circular no. NP/203 of 18th August 2020, I am writing to remind and urge RMT members in the offshore oil and gas industry, including those in diving and subsea roles to complete a survey produced by the Platform campaign group. The survey closes to responses on Monday 31st August.

The more responses there are to it, the more effective the findings of the survey will be. The short online survey takes five minutes to complete and is available here https://oil-and-gas.typeform.com/to/ryYfap

Platform is a pro-worker organisation which your Union has been working with to try and mitigate the impact of job cuts in the offshore oil and gas industry on our members. Building alliances with pro-trade union voices in the environmental movement is essential to protecting offshore oil and gas workers’ jobs and livelihoods. The move to net zero carbon in Scotland by 2045 and by 2050 in the rest of the UK as oil and gas reserves under the North Sea become harder to extract demand that we forge these links. I urge you to take part and to join the public fight for a worker-led Just Transition.

A poster promoting the survey is at the following link https://bit.ly/2DY4S72 and I would also urge you to pin this to notice boards offshore and in RMT regional offices. Our fellow OCG unions, Unite, GMB, Nautilus, Balpa and Prospect are all encouraging their respective members to take part in the Platform survey.

I would be grateful if you would share this with members in your branch or region and I will keep you informed of all further developments.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
