Head Office Circular No. NP/100/14
To the Secretary all Branches,
Council of Executive members,
Regional Councils and Regional Offices.
Monday 2nd June 2014
Dear Colleagues,
RMT/ Action for Rail – TSGN franchise – Tuesday 17 June
The RMT backed Action for Rail campaign will hold a day of action on Tuesday 17th June to protest the proposed new single merged Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern (TSGN) franchise.
The government intends that the company Govia Thameslink operate a new TSGN franchise using a Driver Only Operation (DOO) on the routes and cut station staffing. This puts the livelihood of our members and the safety of the travelling public (eg at risk of falling between the train and platform) on the TSGN routes at risk.
In common with other new franchises, maintenance staff contracts are also at risk as it is proposed that work be transferred to alternative depots.
Protests will take place along the route during the morning rush hour. I am writing to ask for your help with the protests on 17 June please contact your Regional Office to assist with the organising.
Yours sincerely,
Mick Cash
Acting General Secretary
