Circular No. NP/165/21

Dear Colleague,

RMT AND BRITISH RACE RELATIONS HISTORY

The National Black & Ethnic Minority Members’ Conference passed a resolution noting the historical role predecessor unions of the RMT have played in race relations in Britain.

Some of this is covered in the new edition of a book about an Indian-born British socialist politician of colour, Comrade Sak, Shapurji Saklatvala MP, a political biography, by black rights campaigner Marc Wadsworth, whom the RMT supports. Some commentators have said the book is required reading for labour movement and anti-racist activists interested in uncovering hidden histories and learning from them.

Further to this, the NEC have decided that purchasing copies of this book is a legitimate expenditure of branch and regional funds, and is available direct from Peepal Tree Press https://www.peepaltreepress.com/books/comrade-sak

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
