RMT Demo, Dept for Transport Fri 11 January – UK Crew on Brexit Ferries

Circular No: NP/007/19

TO ALL BRANCHES AND REGIONAL COUNCILS.

Our ref: S1/2 S1/15

8th January 2019

Dear Colleagues

RMT Demo, Dept for Transport Fri 11 January – UK Crew on Brexit Ferries

Further to circular no. NP/001/19 of 4th January 2019, RMT is calling on all members and activists to attend a demonstration in London following the announcement that Chris Grayling has signed three contracts worth £108m with DFDS, Britany Ferries and Seaborne Freight for extra roll-on roll-off freight ferry services, should there be a ‘no deal’ Brexit on 29th March.

We will assemble at 10am on Friday 11th January to demonstrate outside the Department for Transport offices in Great Minster House, 33 Horseferry Road, London SW1P 4DR.

RMT will not accept the Government chucking public money at shipping companies to cover their clueless Brexit policies without guarantees that the vessels will be

• Crewed with UK Ratings
• Covered by a collective bargaining agreement with RMT
• Fully compliant with UK employment law

You are asked to attend this demo in support of our above demands from the Government and your union’s SOS 2020 campaign. Together, we will take the fight for UK Ratings jobs in a fair ferries industry fit for the future to this complacent and incompetent Tory Government. Attendance is a legitimate use of Branch funds.

I would be grateful if you could bring the contents of this circular to the attention of members in your branch and you will be kept updated with all further developments.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
