Circular No. NP/126/14
Dear Colleague
RMT POLITICAL FUND BALLOT
YOUR UNION - YOUR VOICE
BALLOT COMMENCES 1st SEPTEMBER 2014
Further to my previous circular, I can advise you that the RMT Political fund ballot will commence on 1st September 2014 and close on 3rd November 2014. I am informed that the TSSA ballot will also commence on this date.
I will shortly be distributing propaganda, but in the meantime I would be grateful if all branches could put this issue on the agenda of their next meeting to plan maximum turnout from members.
The key message is that the Political Fund is not about affiliation to any political party. The Political Fund is used to allow the union to run political campaigns and lobby politicians on the bread and butter issues that affect RMT members at the workplace.
If we lose the Political Fund, the union will not be able to run political campaigns to defend our members’ interests. That means the employers (who don’t need to have a Political Fund of course!) will have a huge advantage over the union. If we lose the Political Fund we will be fighting with one hand tied behind our back.
If there was ever a good of example of the need for the Political Fund it is today’s scandalous comments from the Prime Minister that he wants to in effect outlaw strike action. The union needs its Political Fund to campaign against this and for the repeal of the anti-trade union laws.
Please do all you can to mobilise for a massive YES vote. For further information on the campaign please contact James Croy (j.croy@rmt.org.uk) at Head Office.
Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
Acting General Secretary
