RMT TRADE UNION EDUCATION PROGRAMME 2026

 

I am pleased to confirm that the RMT Trade Union Education Programme for 2026 will go live on Monday 1^st December 2025. The programme will be delivered in regions and at the Bob Crow National Education Centre (BCNEC) in Doncaster.

 

Our courses are designed to best equip our Union’s workplace representatives to support, advise and represent our members across the union. The programme will include core skills training for Workplace, Health & Safety, Union Learning Representatives and Branch Officials roles. There are also a number of further development courses to equip our Representatives and Officials with the skills and knowledge to deal with specific issues in their workplaces. The learning style is one of collaboration and participation, with reps from across our union learning from each other and strengthening our union.

 

APPLICATIONS

 

When considering course applications, Branch Secretaries should discuss with the applicant, particularly newly elected representatives, how the course will help them in their current role/activity or the role/activity they intend to undertake. Applicants should ensure that they have completed any pre-requisite courses before applying for a subsequent follow-on course. To ensure that representatives develop the practical experience in their roles, there should be a minimum of six weeks in between a Stage 1 Part 1 and Stage 1 Part 2 course and a minimum period of six months in between Stage 1 and Stage 2 courses.

 

Members should apply via the RMT website - Log on or Register, click on e-membership, top right, this brings up a list on the left, right at the bottom is RMT Training Courses, click and this brings up all available courses in date order.

 

This will automatically reserve a place and email the respective Branch Secretary. Alternatively, the attached application form can be completed and emailed back to the Education Administration, inbox, on bcnecadmin@rmt.org.uk.

 

It would also be helpful if all Regions could ensure they are represented on the National Education Advisory Committee. Do contact Michael Cudjoe, National Education Manager, (m.cudjoe@rmt.org.uk) to advise whether you have an Education Officer and who your delegate is for the National Education Advisory Committee.
