Head Office Circular No. NP/126/21
To all Branches and Regional Councils
23rd April 2021
Dear Colleagues
RMT Union standing in solidarity with PCS Union Members Taking action at Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)
RMT Union stands in absolute solidarity with over 3,400 PCS Union members in the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) who are in dispute over health and safety concerns after being forced to work on site during the pandemic.
DVLA sites in Swansea have recorded more than 600 Covid cases and a fatality, the largest outbreak of Covid in any UK workplace, with the contact centre being declared an outbreak site by Public Health Wales last December.
Four days of strike action took place on 6 - 9 April and further strike action will take place on 4 - 7 May. Despite efforts made by the union in extensive negotiations to resolve the dispute, DVLA continues to refuse to prioritise the safety of PCS Union members by insisting over 2000 people go into the Swansea office every day.
Take Action
Comrades from PCS Union have requested that all RMT Union members take a quick and simple campaign action and write to Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps MP to urge him to intervene in this dispute. The quick and simple email action can be found here: https://pcs.e-activist.com/page/79473/action/1
I have today sent a message of support to PCS Union members and would be grateful if you could bring the content of this circular to the attention of all members in your Branch.
Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
General Secretary
