Seafarer Certification and Training – updated MCA contacts

 

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) have produced updated contact details for seafarer certification and training issues, which will be of use to RMT seafarer representatives and to Maritime Branches.

 

The new MCA contact details here will help reps and the wider union handle seafarer members’ certification cases and enquiries, particularly in the following areas:

 

• Ratings Certificate Revalidation (Deck and Engine)
• Seafarers Discharge Books
• Cooks Certificates of Competency
• Certificates of Equivalent Competency
• Safe ‘Manning’ Documents
• Flag State Endorsement
• Boatmaster Licences 
• Support for Maritime Training (SMarT) 

 

In March, the MCA produced updated guidance on handling seafarers’ medical certification enquiries, covering all ENG1 and ML5 issues affecting seafarers and others serving on a merchant ship. This includes the current list of MCA Approved Doctors and a guide to renewing ENG1 certification.
