Security on cross channel ferries

Circular No: NP/0171/18

TO ALL SHIPPING BRANCHES & REGIONAL COUNCILS.

Our ref: S6/2/18

4th September 2018

Dear Colleagues

Security on cross channel ferries

I write to inform you that, in line with the instruction from the National Executive Committee, I am in the process of arranging a meeting between the union and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) to discuss security arrangements on cross channel passenger ferry services.

The French Government has recently introduced new requirements for the processing of passengers and luggage on cross channel ferries between UK and French ports. We will press the UK regulator for its position on this development and related maritime security matters with any potential impact on our members working in the short sea ferry sector.

I would be grateful if you could bring the contents of this circular to the attention of members in your branch and you will be kept updated with further developments.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
