Circular No: NP/115/19
TO ALL SHIPPING BRANCHES AND REGIONAL COUNCILS.
Our ref: S6/4/19
27th June 2019
Dear Colleagues
Ship’s Cook Certificate of Competency (SCCoC) on UK Registered Ships
I am writing to remind members that the Maritime and Coastguard Agency’s deadline for obtaining a Ship’s Cook Certificate of Competency (SCCoC) for work on a UK registered ship is 7th August.
The requirement for an SCCoC applies to ships with a total crew of 10 seafarers. The vast majority of shipping companies, including those which recognise RMT for collective bargaining purposes have already taken the necessary steps to arrange for SCCoC training in good time before this deadline. More information is available in Merchant Shipping Notice 1846 (attached).
Should any RMT members be affected or have any concerns over this, including those working on ships flagged under a non-UK register, they are advised to contact their rep or Branch Secretary in the first instance.
It would be appreciated if you could bring the content of this circular to the attention of all branch members and you will be updated with further developments.
Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
General Secretary
