Stop Exploitation at Condor Ferries – demos in Portsmouth 15th & 26th July

Circular No: NP/115/14

TO ALL BRANCHES, REGIONAL ORGANISERS, REGIONAL COUNCILS & COUNCIL OF EXECUTIVES

Our ref: S1/3/S1/7/S8/1/14

2nd July 2014

Dear Colleagues

Stop Exploitation at Condor Ferries – demos in Portsmouth 15th & 26th July

The union’s campaign to end Condor Ferries’ exploitation of seafarers continues later this month and members are urged to attend two demonstrations in Portsmouth Continental Ferry Port, Wharf Road PO2 8RU on the following dates:

Tuesday 15th July, Midday
Saturday 26th July, 7am

Condor continue to recruit Ukrainian seafarers on pay as low as £2.35 per hour to work on vessels to the Channel Islands from Portsmouth, Poole and Weymouth, and their latest accounts show a staggering 275% increase in pre-tax profits, entirely built on seafarers’ exploited labour. This completely unacceptable crewing policy undermines UK employment and equality law, as well as damaging the maritime skills base through social dumping.

Members are encouraged to attend these vital demonstrations in support of the RMT’s campaign to end Condor’s disgraceful exploitation of seafarers. The cost of attendance would be a legitimate claim from your Branch funds.

Please bring the content of this circular to the attention of members in your Branch.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
Acting General Secretary
