National Policy Circular NP/92/15/BO
To the Secretary all Scottish Branches, Scottish Regional Council,
Council of Executive Members, Regional Offices.
Dear Colleagues,
STUC and Scottish Peoples Assembly call rally against austerity in George Square, Glasgow on Saturday 20th June 2015.
Further to recent circulars about the major People’s Assembly demonstration in London on the 20th June, the STUC has announced that it will be throwing its weight behind a rally entitled, “Scotland United Against Austerity”. The event in Glasgow will take the form of a rally and will be organised in co-operation with the People’s Assembly in Scotland and the main organisations involved in that coalition. The event explicitly aims to involve a range of organisations opposed to austerity, including those who took positions for Yes and No during the recent referendum. .
The main focus of the rally will, of course, be to unite in opposition to austerity and provide a show of that strength to the Tory Government. RMT will be fully participating in the rally and all branches are urged to attend to ensure a loud and powerful message from Scotland.
With the Tories in government we know exactly what to expect - more privatisation, more destructive cuts, more anti trade union laws and more attacks on our communities. Now is the time to mobilise, to spread the word and to show the full force of anti-austerity opinion in Scotland.
Please do everything you can to maximise attendance.
Further details will be circulated as they become available
Yours sincerely,
Mick Cash
General Secretary
