National Policy Circular NP/154/15/BO
To the Secretary all Branches, Council of Executive Members,
Regional Offices. Regional Councils.
Dear Colleagues,
Support Easington Colliery Heritage Day 12th September 2015
The memory of the historic miners’ strike has been kept alive through the hard work and determination of the community groups based in and around coalfields. It is vital that memory is never forgotten. The Easington Colliery Heritage Group are holding a Heritage day on the 12th September 2015 with the full support of the Durham Miners.
The event starts at 10.00am with a parade of bands and banners from the Miners memorial garden to the Welfare Park. At approximately 11.00am there will be speakers in the main hall, live music and an exhibition of Keith Pattisons photos from the 1984 strike. There will be a bar and food on site, children’s arts and crafts as well as events in the Miners Welfare Hall, Seaside Lane South (Back), Easington Colliery, Peterlee, County Durham, SR8 3PL Telephone 0191 5270635
The evening will end with a Northern Soul night in the Hall. Secure camping site along with B&B accommodation is available.
The organisers have written to me extending a warm welcome to all RMT members to join them on the day and the Council of Executives has agreed to support the event and encourages branches to go along on the day with their banners. By celebrating our past, we build unity and solidarity for the future battles against austerity that we all face.
Please bring this important celebration to member’s attention and attend if possible.
Thanking you in anticipation
Yours sincerely,
Mick Cash
General Secretary
