Circular No: NP/251/20
TO ALL BRANCHES & REGIONAL COUNCILS.
9th October 2020
Dear colleague,
TAKE ACTION TO PROTECT JOBS AND SERVICES AT HULL TRAINS AND GRAND CENTRAL
As open-access operators neither Hull Trains nor Grand Central have received any Government support during Covid-19. At the start of the pandemic, RMT called on the Government to provide assistance to the open-access operators, but it has taken no action.
Both Hull Trains and Grand Central now say they are in an unsustainable financial position and are proposing job losses. Given that passenger numbers remain below pre-Covid levels it is clear that Government financial support is needed to protect all jobs currently at risk and to protect all jobs and services in the longer term.
RMT is campaigning to protect all jobs and services at Hull Trains and Grand Central.
As part of this campaign, RMT has launched an online petition, calling on the Government to support the sector and protect all jobs and services.
You can sign the petition here - https://www.megaphone.org.uk/petitions/save-the-open-access-rail-sector
An Early Day Motion (#965) has been tabled in Parliament, and has already received cross-party support from MPs, but it is vital that as many MPs as possible sign it, to put pressure on the Government to take action.
Please write to your MP, and ask them to sign EDM 965 – a model letter for doing so is on the RMT website here – https://bit.ly/2SDWRYD
It takes just a couple of minutes to sign the petition and email your MP, so please take action to help protect jobs and services at Hull Trains and Grand Central, and share with members, friends, colleagues and on social media.
Please be assured your Union is fighting to protect all jobs and conditions – workers can not be made to pay the price of this crisis.
Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
General Secretary
