Head Office Circular No. NP/134/23
To all Branches and Regional Councils
3rd August 2023
Dear Colleagues
TICKET OFFICE CAMPAIGN UPDATE – MORE THAN 315,000 RESPONSES RECEIVED
I am writing to let you know that the passenger watchdogs overseeing the ticket office public consultations have announced today that they have received more than 315,000 consultation responses. This is a massive jump since the announcement last week that they had received 170,000 responses.
This shows just how much public opposition there is to the Government and Train Companies’ proposals to close ticket offices and de-staff our railway. That so many responses have been sent into the consultations is undoubtedly because of the amazing efforts of RMT members and activists to mobilise and get the message out to passengers.
We have four more weeks until the consultations close, so it is vital that you continue your efforts to maximise responses to the consultations. We need the message to get out that the consultations are still open and passengers can continue to have their say.
Please support the campaign action days on 9th and 16th August at stations in your area. If you have activity planned and haven’t already sent details, please send these through to s.ward@rmt.org.uk.
Requests for campaign materials should continue to be sent to saveourticketoffices@rmt.org.uk and there are now supplies of postcards and posters available at Unity House and from regional offices.
Yours sincerely
Michael Lynch
General Secretary
If you haven’t already done so, please can you do the following four things to support the campaign to keep ticket offices open:
• Respond to the public consultation. You can do so via our website here - https://www.rmt.org.uk/campaigns/rail/save-ticket-offices/ or you can email
ticketoffice@londontravelwatch.org.uk and schedule17@transportfocus.org.uk. It closes on 1st September.
• Spread the word! On social media and ask friends and family to respond to the consultation.
• Email saveourticketoffices@rmt.org.uk to request campaign postcards to distribute.
• Write to your MP and sign our petition. You can do this here -https://actionnetwork.org/letters/write-to-your-mp-save-ticket-offices/ and here - https://www.megaphone.org.uk/petitions/cut-their-profits-not-our-ticket-offices
