TUC call for B&EM Covid evidence

1st June 2020
My ref: EO/8
Circular No. NP/133/20

TO: THE SECRETARY
BRANCHES AND REGIONAL COUNCILS

Dear Colleague,

TUC CALL FOR EVIDENCE FROM B&EM WORKERS

The massive and disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on Black and Ethnicy Minority (B&EM) workers has been clear for weeks.  Whilst the debate continues as to why this is, B&EM workers voices and experiences must shape the debate and any solutions developed.

Therefore I am pleased to support the TUC in their call out for evidence, asking B&EM workers to share their experiences of unfair treatment and racism at work during this crisis so that they can:
  • highlight the lived experience of B&EM and migrant workers
  • pressure the EHRC as the equalities regulator to use their powers to hold government and employers to account
  • ensure targeted action is taken to tackle racism at work
  • shape the narrative around the impact of Covid-19 on B&EM workers
The TUC has requested all affiliates to help distribute this call for evidence as widely as possible.  Therefore please do encourage B&EM members to tell their stories:

The TUC would also appreciate support in amplifying their social media posts:

Yours sincerely,
Mick Cash
General Secretary
