TUC fringe, 14 September, 4pm: RMT joins transport union speakers to call for a new plan for public transport

National Policy Circular No. NP/219/JW

To all branches and Regional Councils

Dear colleague,

TUC fringe, 14 September, 4pm: RMT joins transport union speakers to call for a new plan for public transport

RMT Senior Assistant General Secretary Steve Hedley will join speakers from ASLEF, TSSA and Unite in an online rally on the Monday of next week’s meeting of the TUC. The rally will highlight the vital role that public transport workers have played in moving essential workers and goods during the Covid-19 pandemic, demonstrating their centrality to our national economy and society and will urge the need for a new plan for public transport to be at the heart of recovery and rebuilding.

With public transport reeling during the coronavirus and the collapse of privately run, commercial models of service delivery, it’s clear that we need urgent action for public transport that delivers more frequent, affordable, attractive and sustainable travel for our population. We need to turn the page on the inefficiency and profiteering that has accompanied privatisation.

The rally will take place on Monday 14 September at 4pm and you can register online here: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_mVmH4VC4Qu6L_LBBuAehng

Please bring the content of this circular to the attention of all members in your Branch.

Yours sincerely
