TUC National Meeting: Building a trade union response to the far-right

Head Office Circular No. NP/45/23

To all Branches and Regional Councils

7th March 2023

Dear Colleagues

TUC National Meeting: Building a trade union response to the far-right

The trade union movement has always been at the forefront of activity to oppose fascism. The TUC is organising a national meeting for trade unionists to explore ways in which local trade union groups are already organising to oppose the far right and to see whether this can provide a starting point for a national anti-fascist network of trade unionists.

In recent weeks there have been a growing number of far-right and fascist activities, we have seen riots, attacks on migrant centres and far-right leaflets being distributed across towns. The Home Office has recorded 70 racist incidents by far-right supporters against asylum seekers in barracks and hotel accommodation in the last two years. We need an organised trade union response.
