URGENT - Protect the right to strike – Demonstration outside parliament – Thursday 19th December – 12.30

Circular No: NP/281/19

TO ALL BRANCHES & REGIONAL COUNCILS.

17th December 2019

Dear Colleagues

URGENT - Protect the right to strike – Demonstration outside parliament – Thursday 19th December – 12.30

Boris Johnson’s Tory Government has announced today that it is planning to introduce minimum service levels in the transport sector during industrial action.

This is a draconian measure which amounts to an attempt to ban transport workers from going on strike.

Taking industrial action is a basic human right and denying workers the ability to withdraw their labour has been the hallmark of hard right, authoritarian regimes.

The provisions for this legislation will be included in Thursday’s Queen’s Speech and therefore, a demonstration has been organised outside parliament to coincide with this.

Assemble outside parliament on Thursday 19th December, by 12.30pm by Parliament Square, (Opposite the Houses of Parliament), SW1P 3JX. https://goo.gl/maps/uAmeAS6o46rmk8hW9

Please share details of this important demonstration with your reps and members, your local labour party and trades councils.

It is vital that we send a strong message to the Government that they cannot deny transport workers the right to strike, so please do all you can to support this demonstration.

Yours sincerely
