Women, B&EMM and LGBT Advisory Committees – Basis for Election

23rd November 2016
My ref: EO/5
Circular No. NP/278/16

TO: THE SECRETARY
ALL BRANCHES AND REGIONAL COUNCILS

Dear Colleague,

Women, B&EMM and LGBT Advisory Committees – Basis for Election

Further to successful appeals at the AGM, the review of the basis of election for three of the union’s advisory committees (women, black and ethnic minorities and LGBT) was stopped.  Therefore the basis of election reverts back to previous decision (CE287, 5th August 2011).  This allows that vacancies on these committees can be filled as casual vacancies for one year running year by year.

In accordance with this decision, I am writing to all Branch Secretaries to look at the attached membership of these three committees.  Branches which are not represented are encouraged to nominate for vacancies.  Branches may also nominate a second delegate to a committee with a vacancy.  Second delegates can only the hold the post for a year and then the position must be reopened for election.  If there are more nominees than vacancies for either first or second delegates from branches within any region, an election will be held.

Please note nominations must be received by Tuesday 31st January 2017.  Do contact our Equal Opportunities Officer, Jessica Webb (j.webb@rmt.org.uk 020 7529 8821), with any queries on this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Mick Cash
General Secretary
