New Inflation Rates

Head Office Circular No. NP/282/13

To the Secretary all Branches,
Council of Executive members,
Regional Councils and Regional Offices.

Tuesday 15th October 2013

Dear Colleagues,

New Inflation Rates

The Office for National Statistics has published inflation figures for the twelve months to September.

The Retail Prices Index (RPI) stood at 3.2% for the year to September 2013, down from the 3.3% figure to August 2013.

The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) stood at 2.7% for the year to September 2013, unchanged from the 2.7% figure to August 2013.

Air fares were up the most (they fell less compared to this time last year) and motor fuel prices down the most.

Petrol prices fell 0.5p per litre between August and September 2013, to stand at £1.37. Compared with a rise of 3.9p per litre between the same two months a year ago, to stand at £1.39. Diesel prices rose 0.1p per litre this year between August and September 2013, to stand at £1.42, compared with a larger rise of 3.5p between the same two months a year ago to stand at £1.44.

RMT pay submissions will continue to emphasise that your financial commitments have increased at a greater rate than official inflation and that your living standards are undermined by this disparity.

Yours sincerely

Bob Crow
General Secretary
