Seafarers Wages Bill

Seafarers Wages Bill

Write to your MPs ahead of Second Reading of the Seafarers Wages Bill

P&O represent a new low in seafarer employment and industrial relations. The Government has introduced the Seafarers Wages Bill in response and we are asking all RMT members to write to their MP, if you haven’t already done so, in support of the Union’s campaign to amend the Seafarers Wages Bill in order to prevent any repeat of P&O Ferries’ unlawful attack on seafarer jobs.

Please use the following link to write to your MP in support of changes to the Bill to recover jobs and better pay, safety and working conditions for RMT Ratings working from UK ports in every sector of the shipping industry

Two RMT backed amendments to strengthen the Bill’s provisions for seafarers in areas additional to pay, including roster patterns were narrowly defeated in the Lords last month. The Bill will pass to the Commons for Second Reading in the coming weeks.

Ahead of this we need to put MPs on the spot by asking them to support changes to the Bill which provide real protection for seafarers and actively prevent another P&O. Your participation and support is strongly encouraged and appreciated.
