RMT is campaigning against plans by Scottish Government owned ScotRail to reduce ticket office hours at 101 of its 143 staffed stations.
RMT has launched a campaign against dangerous government-driven cuts of over a billion pounds to the Network Rail funding for the next Railway Control Period 7 (CP7) from 2024 to 2029 for vital safety-critical railway infrastructure work. These cuts include:
RMT’s recent victory against ticket office closures has shown there is only one union for station staff.
Over the last year the RMT has been campaigning against the DfT managed train companies’ plans for wholesale ticket office closures. The result has been the largest ever response to a government consultation. On October 31, 2023 the government announced the plans had been dropped.

Justice for Cleaners – Fight for £15
As part of our ‘Cleaners Are Essential’ campaign, RMT is pressing the rail industry and Transport for London to end the outsourcing of cleaning.
Network Rail are planning wholesale cuts to jobs and safety critical maintenance work by September.
With the range of serious issues facing our members at the moment, your union will be stepping up its campaign under the heading Transport workers are ESSENTIAL workers.
Cleaners are Essential – Campaign update
Station staff play a vital role in helping deliver a safe, secure and accessible railway. But government and train companies are cutting station staff, de-staffing stations and closing tickets offices. This threatens passenger service and safety, especially at a time of rising crime on the railway.
