Keep Catering on CrossCountry Trains!

Keep Catering on CrossCountry Trains!

Privatised train operator CrossCountry Trains is proposing cuts to their provision of on-board catering services on long distance rail services meaning some services won’t have catering services on the train at all.

On-board catering services on our railways have been under attack by privatised train companies seeking to cut costs and staffing at the expense of passenger service for many years and there has already been a significant reduction in catering services. Nearly all restaurant areas on trains have been abolished and the traditional buffet counter has also been removed or is under threat.

Rather than attack on-board catering services and workers RMT Union believe they should be celebrated by train operators as an important part of the onboard team, offering passengers excellent customer service and that the availability to get snacks, drinks and in some cases light meals is an added value to the travel experience on our railways.

Train operators and the Government should be expanding rail catering ensuring it is adequately resourced, properly staffed under the Government’s new Great British Railways so that rail catering should be the norm, not an exception on our railways. All catering provision should also be in-house. Cross Country Trains should reverse these cuts.
