RMT Press Office
General Secretary Mick Cash said
"RMT is keeping a close watch on any potential impact of today's Bombardier global announcement on the train building operations in Derby. We have been in contact with the company today and we are seeking firm assurances from them. The union will of course continue to campaign to defend and expand train building in the UK.
"We need to end the stop start attitude to train building in the UK and that means ensuring that new rail fleet contracts are ā€ˇplaced by the train operating companies with the skilled workforce at the Derby plant to guarantee a safe and secure future for train building in the nation that gave the railways to the world."
