RMT Calls Strike Action and Action Short of a Strike

Our Ref: BR2/14/2

16th October 2014

Dear Colleague

BREAKDOWN IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS, CONDUCTORS, NORTH WALES ARRIVA TRAINS WALES

RMT CALLS STRIKE ACTION AND ACTION SHORT OF A STRIKE

Further to my previous correspondence with regards to the above matter, I can now advise you that there has been no proposal from ATW to reinstate our two members, Brother Barry Roberts and Brother William Coulter, who were dismissed under the company’s sickness absence policy.

As you may recall, ATW management refused to exercise discretion when both our members were clearly covered by medical certification. Furthermore, the company took the outrageous decision to refuse the release of our Senior Union Representatives to attend a meeting in the hope of seeking a resolution to this dispute.

Your union’s Executive Committee has again had the opportunity to consider this matter and believe that in order to achieve justice for our two disgracefully dismissed members, further industrial action is necessary to force management to see sense and reinstate Brother Roberts and Brother Coulter. This dispute is not just about the individuals it is about the principle and if we stand still and do nothing then we are giving ATW the green light to hire and fire at will.

Therefore, your General Grades Committee has taken the decision to call on all our ATW Conductor members at Holyhead, Chester and Llandudno Junction Depots to take the following strike action:

•    Not to book on for any turns of duty that commence between 00.01 hours on Thursday 23rd October 2014 until 23.59 hours on Friday 24th October 2014

Additionally, your General Grades Committee has instructed all members at Holyhead, Chester and Llandudno Junction Depots to take industrial action short of a strike between the following dates and times, as outlined below:

•    Not to work any rest days, any over time or any additional Sundays outside your agreed roster from 23.59 hours on Saturday 25th October 2014 until 00.01 hours on Saturday 8th November 2014.

•    Not to work outside the boundaries of your terms and conditions and to withdraw all goodwill towards the company from 23.59 hours on Saturday 25th October 2014 until 00.01 hours on Saturday 8th November 2014.

Once again, congratulations to all our ATW Conductor members at Chester, Holyhead and Llandudno Junction for your show of strength and solidarity during this period of industrial action and for the rock solid turn out on the picket lines in support of your two dismissed colleagues.
UNITY IS STRENGTH
SUPPORT YOUR UNION – SUPPORT THE ACTION
Best wishes.

Mick Cash
General Secretary
