Campaign secures future of Scotland's Millerhill rail depot

Following a high profile union and political campaign RMT has welcomed news that Network Rail have confirmed that Millerhill depot outside Edinburgh will reopen as a local distribution centre in June 2016.

DB Schenker have also announced that they will keep drivers and groundstaff employed until June 2016 when the LDC reopens.

DB will use drivers and groundstaff as required for other work as well as route learning up to 2016 with the pending reopening.

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said;

"Today's positive announcements were always the key to securing the future of the depot and on behalf of all staff at Millerhill  RMT thanks Neil Findlay and his MSP colleagues for their hard work.

" The momentum and political pressure put on Network rail, Transport Scotland, DB Schenker, and the Transport secretary was crucial in reversing this decision.

" This safeguards economically vital jobs and our members livelihoods‎. It proves that if you fight you can win."
