City Cruises Thames river workers suspend strike action

TRANSPORT UNION RMT confirmed today that staff working for City Cruises, one of the major players in transportation on the River Thames, have suspended strike action due to take place today as an act of goodwill as talks are agreed for next week ‎to address the issues of pay and workplace justice.
Further action on Friday 4th September and Saturday 5th September  between 07:00 hours and 20.00 hours remains on.
 
Workers at the high-profile company have been organised by RMT and recently voted by 100% for action. RMT has now been granted recognition after a long and hard campaign.
 
The City Cruises services are often touted as an alternative to London Underground services during industrial action and the company runs services along the river from Greenwich to Westminster.
 
 RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said:
 
“The City Cruises workforce have been getting a raw deal on pay and conditions from this high-profile company for far too long. They are now organised and represented by RMT and have shown through their 100% vote for action that they are determined to fight for workplace justice.
 
“Efforts through negotiations to get a sensible offer out of City Cruises have taken on added urgency since we declared the strike action and as an act of goodwill, with talks now set up next week,  we have been able to suspend to today's stoppage but the next phases of action remain on. "
