DISMISSAL – A. MCGUIGAN – TRAIN OPERATOR – MORDEN
All RMT Train Operator and Instructor Operator members at London Underground should now have received their voting paper for the above ballot to demand justice and the reinstatement of your colleague, Brother Alex McGuigan. If you have not already done so, I urge you to complete and return your voting paper immediately to reach the Scrutineer for the closing date of Tuesday 10th February 2015. Throughout this dispute, your Union has confirmed time and again that we are not against drug & alcohol testing but the breach of policies and procedures in this case cannot be left unchallenged. In this case, our member has a specific medical condition and the Union maintains that it was the failure to follow agreed procedures and to recognise that condition that has led to this unwarranted dismissal. The outdated and flawed drugs and alcohol policy should include provisions for secondary testing and have recognised equality protections. It has always been our position that there is simply not sufficient evidence to say that Alex was guilty or broke LUL’s policy.
We are asking you all to return a strong ‘YES’ vote for strike action, not only in support of Alex McGuigan but also to make sure that you are not subject to the same treatment by London Underground in the future. RMT has been pointing out that a culture of harassment and misuse of procedure is rife on London Underground at the moment and the Union will not stand back while individuals are fitted-up and picked off as has happened in this case. One person has already been unfairly sacked and if we do nothing it will happen again.
