RMT Press Office:
Exeter Stagecoach South West bus drivers to vote on action following depot move.
BUS UNION RMT confirmed today that it will be balloting its Exeter Stagecoach South West bus driver members for strike action and action short of a strike over inadequate provisions following a move from their city centre depot.
The ballot will open today, 13 January, and conclude on 31 January.
The dispute follows Stagecoach’s decision to sell off their city centre depot and subsequently fail to provide adequate facilities for staff to get to and from the new location or to provide proper car parking facilities at the new site. The key issues are:
• Not allowing staff to book on and off for shifts at the same location, with the appropriate paid travel time within their duty, if necessary
• Failure to provide adequate parking facilities and staff buses to allow staff to get to their place of work, this includes Sunday working
Mick Cash RMT General Secretary said:
“RMT negotiators have made strenuous efforts to resolve this matter and have tabled a number of proposals to management in an effort to minimise the disruption caused by the move to a new depot.
“Unfortunately, management either failed to respond to our proposals or fell woefully short in recognising the disruption that this would cause our members.
“We have been left with no option but to ballot for industrial action to ensure that management sit up and take notice of bus drivers’ concerns.
“The union remains available for talks.”
Ends.
