Dear Colleague,

Extended Leaf Fall Season & Boxing Day – London Underground

As you may be aware, at a recent meeting with the Company to discuss working arrangements for Test Train Operators on Boxing Day and over the extended leaf fall season, two main issues were raised and both resulted in a failure to agree.

Payment for working Boxing Day
The Company has rejected a claim for 2 days’ pay, on top of normal salary and any overtime worked, to be given to TTOs working on Boxing Day as per the original agreement for Train Operators.

Sandite Overtime
The Company has rejected a claim for a similar arrangement for the weeks ending 27/12/14 and 3/1/15 to that applying to Train Operators for Bank Holidays, where weeks containing a public holiday will be posted 28 days in advance and cannot be altered after this. The agreement would provide that any member due to undertake Sandite duties would get the overtime even if the train was no longer required. At the moment the shifts can be cancelled at the last minute and the drivers involved will only get a flat rate week with no overtime.

At this meeting, management offered nothing in respect of either of the above issues and this has led to your Union declaring a dispute situation with the Company. We believe you and your colleagues should be adequately compensated and rewarded for your commitment over this Christmas and New Year period.

The General Grades Committee has considered this matter and taken the decision to ballot our affected members in unison with ASLEF. Your ballot paper will be posted on Tuesday 25th November and the closing date for this ballot is Tuesday 9th December 2014. I urge you all to vote ‘YES’ for both strike action and industrial action short of a strike to show the Company that you are not prepared to accept lesser reward and recognition than other driver colleagues at London Underground.

STAND FIRM
UNITY IS STRENGTH

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
