12th December 2014

Dear Colleague,

Extended Leaf Fall Season & Boxing Day – London Underground

I write further to my correspondence dated 9th December 2014, in which I set out the result in the above ballot. The General Grades Committee has again met to discuss the matter. Correspondence has been received from our sister union, Aslef, alongside whom we stand in unity regarding this dispute. I remind you of the two main issues at hand;

Payment for working Boxing Day
The Company has rejected a claim for 2 days’ pay, on top of normal salary and any overtime worked, to be given to TTOs working on Boxing Day as per the original agreement for Train Operators.

Sandite Overtime
The Company has rejected a claim for a similar arrangement for the weeks ending 27/12/14 and 3/1/15 to that applying to Train Operators for Bank Holidays, where weeks containing a public holiday will be posted 28 days in advance and cannot be altered after this. The agreement would provide that any member due to undertake Sandite duties would get the overtime even if the train was no longer required. At the moment the shifts can be cancelled at the last minute and the drivers involved will only get a flat rate week with no overtime.

Management continue in their stance of offering nothing in respect of either of the above issues and following the ballot of members that returned a ‘Yes’ vote for both Strike Action and Industrial Action Short of a Strike, your Executive believe it is time to focus the minds of management as to the gravity of this matter by taking Industrial Action short of a strike in conjunction with sister union, Aslef.

•    Members are instructed with effect from 00.01 hrs Sunday 21st December 2014 until 23.59 hrs Saturday 3rd January 2015 not to work overtime on Sandite Trains.

We believe you and your colleagues should be adequately compensated and rewarded for your commitment over this Christmas and New Year period. Let us stand together and send management the message that we will not tolerate this despicable treatment.

Yours sincerely
Mick Cash
General Secretary
