RMT Press Office:
BUS UNION RMT has warned First South West bus company today (18/7/2024) that it has breached the collective bargaining agreement with the union and effectively broken the law by contacting members via the company app to demand that they vote to accept a low pay offer.
This blatant interference in the affairs of the union comes ahead of negotiations scheduled to take place tomorrow (Friday) with a view to discuss the need for an improved offer.
RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said that First’s action was a unilateral attempt to divide the membership and undermine both collective bargaining and union organisation.
“The union has urged members to disregard this blatant attempt to break the union and members’ resolve and has asked members not to participate by voting.
“The union has written to the company and is seeking legal advice and will be updating members accordingly,” he said.
