RMT Press Office:
RMT seafarers at Foreland Shipping have overwhelmingly rejected the company’s pay offer in a recent referendum.
85% of RMT members want a better deal and the union has written to the employer calling for an urgent meeting with management in an effort to resolve the matter and avoid the need to move to a ballot for strike action.
Foreland Shipping (Guernsey) Ltd is a British company providing strategic sealift services to the UK Ministry of Defence.
RMT General Secretary Eddie Dempsey said:
“This overwhelming rejection shows just how out of touch Foreland Shipping’s offer is with the needs and expectations of our members.
“These seafarers are highly skilled providing a vital service in support of the Ministry of Defence’s maritime operations.
“They deserve a pay rise that reflects their role and are prepared to robustly fight for what they believe is fair.
“We are ready to negotiate, but if the company refuses to move, we will not hesitate to escalate this dispute.”
