RMT members working at East Midlands Railway (EMR) will take further 48-hour strike action starting from Sunday August 30 over ongoing safety concerns and major train faults.
Ongoing action short of strike remains on in which members are instructed to refuse to work a Class 810 trains if a list of faults including lack of air-con, door faults and non-working toilets continue.
RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said that the union would ensure representatives will be permanently involved in discussions with both EMR and Hitachi to try to improve the situation with the 810 units.
“RMT is demanding that whilst these faults exist and until these trains are shown to be operating properly, they should be taken out of service.
“It is now time for EMR management to act on the safety concerns of our members,” he said.
24-hour strike action is also planned for September 16 if there are no improvements in safety and operations. Full strike dates are below:
00:01 hours on Sunday 30th August 2026 and 23:59 hours on Monday 31st August 2026
12:00 hours on Wednesday 16th September 2026 and 11:59 hours on Thursday 17th September 2026
