RMT Press Office:
Rail union, RMT is urging the public to join a protest rally outside the Scottish Parliament next Wednesday (Dec 11), to oppose ScotRail’s reckless plans to slash ticket office hours.
These cuts, sanctioned by the Scottish Government, will affect 101 of its 143 staffed stations and would see ticket office hours reduced by a staggering 2,800 per week, jeopardising safety, accessibility, and quality of service for passengers.
RMT is meeting Scottish Government Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop following the protest on Wednesday afternoon, providing an opportunity for the Scottish government intervene and reconsider these proposals.
The rally will follow a drop-in event for MSPs inside the Parliament from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM, where the union will highlight the negative impact, these cuts will have on Scotland’s railways.
RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said: "The Scottish Government has the power to stop these outrageous plans from going ahead.
"Slashing ticket office hours will leave stations less safe, less accessible, and erode the quality of rail services.
“We need everyone who values a safe and accessible railway to join us outside the Scottish Parliament on December 11th.
"Let’s send a clear message to ScotRail and the Government that we will not accept these attacks on our members and the detrimental impact on passengers."
END
