Dear colleague

Intercity Express Programme (IEP)

I would like to reiterate my message to you yesterday and congratulate you on such a magnificent display of solidarity with your colleagues and rock solid support for your union during the recent industrial action. Your action in defence of jobs, services and safety serves as a tremendous example to the whole of the RMT and the wider trade union movement.

As I advised you yesterday, some progress has been made in the talks which have been held between your union and the company over the past week. However, it is unfortunate that there are key areas where the dispute remains unresolved. They are:

•    Lack of buffet car facilities on SETs
•    Meeting Hitachi over the future of fleet grades/depots
•    Door operation on AT300/SET/Class 16x trains

With such lack of progress, all industrial action planned for this weekend remains on.

All RMT members at First Great Western are instructed not to book on for any shifts that commence between:-

All Fleet Maintenance Grade Members

All Fleet Maintenance grade members are instructed not to book on for any shifts that commence between:-

•    00.01 hours and 23.59 hours on Saturday 29th August 2015
•    00.01 hours and 23.59 hours on Monday 31st August 2015

All Fleet Maintenance grade members will be instructed to take discontinuous industrial action short of a strike as outlined below: -

•    Not to work any overtime or rest days between 00.01 hours and 23:59 hours on Sunday 30th August 2015

All Other Grades (Excluding Fleet Maintenance Members)

All members excluding Fleet Maintenance grades will be instructed not to book on for any shifts that commence between:-

•    00.01 hours on Saturday 29th August 2015 and 23.59 hours on Monday 31st August 2015

I can advise you that I will be writing to the Department for Transport seeking an urgent meeting to discuss the buffet facilities on SET and AT300 trains and to incorporate the travelling public’s Save The Buffet Campaign as part of this. Additionally, I shall be raising this matter with our Parliamentary Group and writing to all MPs on the routes affected by this reduction in catering services.

I am also requesting an urgent meeting with Hitachi with your union and FGW over the protection of our Fleet grades.

Finally, I shall be inviting your Divisional Council Representatives to a meeting following this coming weekend’s action to discuss all matters surrounding this dispute and possible further industrial action.

I will of course keep you fully advised of all further developments in this dispute and would, in the meantime, ask you to remain solid in our common aims to defend jobs, safety and services.

SUPPORT THE STRIKE ACTION!
DEFEND JOBS AND SERVICES!
SOLIDARITY WITH ALL GRADES AT FGW!

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
