Dear Colleagues

INTERCITY EXPRESS PROGRAMME - TALKS BREAKDOWN – STRIKE IS ON

This morning I attended talks with First Great Western in an effort to resolve the current dispute.

Unfortunately, at the present time, the company still feel that the configuration of the new Super Express Trains is out of their control and that it would be in the best interests of the company to have Driver Only Operation and to remove the buffet cars.

We obviously do not agree as we are of the opinion that the design of the new fleet of trains is a matter for First Group and that there is still time to modify the rolling stock.

We were also unable to reach agreement on the future of the Fleet/Engineering Grades and FGW would not provide this union with a assurance that the TUPE regulations will be adhered to.

Therefore, the 48 hour strike remains on.

To remind you, all RMT members at First Great Western are instructed not to book on for any shifts that commence between:-

•    18:30 hours on Wednesday 8th July 2015 and 18:29 hours on Friday 10th July 2015.

In addition, members are instructed not to work any overtime, between:

•    18.30 hours on Friday 10th July 2015 to 23:59 hours on Saturday 11th July 2015.

Some members may have seen management’s ‘Fastline’ bulletin which is causing some confusion. To clarify members are not expected to work any overtime between 18:30 hours on Friday and 23:59 on Saturday, despite management saying that you should work your normal shifts. If you have any questions or queries about the strike or the overtime ban then please speak to your RMT representative.

Additionally, the RMT is organising a strike rally today, staring at 17:30 hours at Paddington Railway Station. If you are in London today, then I would encourage you to attend this rally.

I applaud you for your continued support on this issue and urge you to keep up the fight.

Yours sincerely

Mick Cash
General Secretary
