At its quadrennial conference yesterday the Maritime Union of Australia sent the strongest possible message of support and solidarity to RMT members in Scotland fighting to keep the CalMac Ferry routes in public hands.

The message of support comes as RMT prepares to release a new independent report supporting the case for public ownership in the Scottish Parliament this afternoon.

The MUA Conference support for CalMac was endorsed by international shipping union delegates from around the globe and was underpinned by the MUA's president Christy Cain.

Speaking at the MUA ‎Conference RMT General Secretary Mick Cash told delegates and guests;

"Our members around the world are locked into the same global battles to stop the race to the bottom on pay and working conditions throughout the‎ shipping industry. Our international unity and solidarity are important weapons in the fight we are all engaged in.

"RMT welcomes the international trade union support for the CalMac fight against profiteering and privatisation of life-line ferry services and that support will come as a boost for our campaign as we launch our new report in Scotland this afternoon. "
